Wastewater plant saves money

HAINES CITY – The new odorless biosolids wastewater treatment plant is living up to its promises.

Since it began operations in May, the state of the art Neutrilizer plant is saving the city bundles of bucks.

Mike Stripling, the city’s public works director, said the city will do a six-month analysis of cost savings but an initial look at the numbers show the city may be able to stabilize residents’ wastewater treatment rates.

“Over the last three months, the city has saved an average of nearly $7,500 a month in electricity costs,” Stripling said Thursday.
