Natural Systems Utilities Finalized Contracts with The Durst Organization

Sep 23, 2016

“Natural Systems Utilities (NSU) finalized contracts with The Durst Organization (TDO) to design, build and operate an onsite water treatment and reuse system serving buildings 2 & 3 of Hallets Point. Hallets Point is a 2.4 million-square-foot re-development project that will transform the waterfront of Astoria, Queens and redefine green living with a vision of sustainability that both respects nature and promotes well-being. NSU is already working on the first system (serving building 1) which is scheduled to begin construction this year and it is anticipated that a total of three onsite reuse systems will be used to serve the entire Hallets Point campus. The three systems will be sized to treat and reuse over 200,000 gallons per day (GPD) for flushwater, cooling water, irrigation, sidewalk maintenance and potentially laundry. The systems will prevent millions of gallons of wastewater from being dumped into the East River and recent studies have shown that NYC onsite water reuse systems sized at this scale reveal triple bottom line benefits. NSU manages one of the largest bases of onsite water treatment & reuse systems in the US. TDO and NSU will now be setting a standard for sustainable water resource management including a business case focus.”
